Charleston Opens New Exhibition Space 8th September

Home of Bloomsbury artists Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant, Charleston is to open its new galleries, events space and restaurant next month. The Threshing Barn will house the new restaurant and courtyards for al fresco eating. Hay Barn will be used for the literary festivals, events and performances. There will also be five galleries and a shop.  The development was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund  for £2.44 million and covers 570sqm.  For the first time theses spaces are  intended to be open all year, a brilliant addition to the cultural life of East Sussex.  The inaugural exhibition is multi disciplinary featuring artists' work, photography and historical artefacts linked to Virginia Wolf's novel and is titled 'Orlando at the Present Time'.
